How to Change IP Address on Mac: New Guidelines
Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) July 26, 2013 -- idcloak publishes its second in a series of guidelines for users of different platforms who wish to anonymize their internet connection. The article, How to Change IP Address on Mac, offers IP hiding advice for users of non-PC platforms in general, but with a focus on Apple Macs.
The article divides its recommendations into two sections: free services and paid, with explanation of the advantages and disadvantages of each presented technology. A free web proxy is provided at the top of the article for those requiring quick access to an anonymous connection to the internet.
Robin Welles, writer of the article and senior researcher at idcloak, introduces the article’s primary point, “Although setup of certain proxy services does vary—which is why we have published a separate article on IP hiding on Windows (see: How to Change IP Address on Windows)—there is a misconception that IP changing services are fundamentally different across all platforms.”
“The issue of proxy vs platform only really comes up when we are talking about client software, which is nowadays mostly limited to VPNs. And even then it's no big deal. The most important protocols for personal VPNs—PPTP and OpenVPN—are supported on all platforms but one (just iOS doesn't natively support OpenVPN). So, as long as the VPN providers deliver software for the different platforms—which the best of them do—all the user really needs to worry about is which proxy (and provider!) is best for the task in hand.”
For those interested in learning more about VPN set up on various platforms, Welles recommends the idcloak article: How to Set Up a VPN.
