The midterm elections held last week brought sweeping wins for the Republicans, especially in the deep South and now Republicans control both houses of Congress.
“In light of the midterm results, and Congressional past inaction the President should now take serious executive action to deliver immigration relief to the millions of people in need,” commented the immigration lawyer in Georgia. Senator Mitch McConnell and Representative John Boehner have warned the President that executive action would destroy any chance of future legislation in immigration. “Since nothing was done in the past and Republicans have pretty much killed all the immigration proposals in the last 6 years, there is nothing that they would do anyway to harm the situation so the President should act now,” added the immigration attorney in Atlanta, GA.
The Obama administration is considering expanding the Deferred Action program to a larger population of undocumented immigrants in the U.S., which includes relief from deportation and work authorization based on their length of time in the U.S. and family ties as well as expanding DACA to young adults who entered as children to those older than age 30 in order to make more people eligible for this program.
