Howell & Christmas Launches Visionary Scholarship
North Charleston, South Carolina (PRWEB) April 24, 2014 -- Personal injury law firm Howell & Christmas announced last week the creation of a $1,000 scholarship for tomorrow’s lawyers.
The 2014 Visionary Scholarship will be awarded to one exceptional student planning a law career. Gary Christmas, the firm’s founding partner, says that Howell & Christmas wants to specifically focus the scholarship on a student with big ideas for the future and a hard-working mindset to achieve them.
“Law school is difficult no matter who you are,” Christmas said. “It’s highly competitive. We want to find someone who has a vision for their future as an attorney and help make their dream a little more achievable.”
To that end, the scholarship requires a minimum 2.8 GPA as well as an essay on one of three topics chosen by the firm. The essay topics all focus on exploring ethical or ideological questions currently facing the US legal community.
“We want to see how each student engages real issues,” Christmas said. “It gives us a sense of how they will grapple with the challenges they’ll face as an attorney.”
Although 2014 is the first year for the Visionary Scholarship, Howell & Christmas has a long history of community work.
“We’ve been serving South Carolina residents for 17 years and Howell & Christmas has provided pro-bono work that whole time,” Christmas said. “That’s in addition to the non-profit we founded to provide free bike and skateboard helmets to kids.”
