Howell Instruments Receives Honor from L3 Communications
Fort Worth, TX (PRWEB) September 28, 2015 -- Thursday, September 17th, Dr. Pete Franks from L3 Communications presented Howell Instruments’ MRO team with a special award for quality workmanship and job performance.
As Modification Manager of L3’s C12 Army Program, Dr. Franks was responsible for sourcing a competitive bid to overhaul aviation ground support equipment (GSE) returning to the United States from the front lines of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Dr. Franks comments, “This is something that hasn’t been done before. Howell Instruments took an amount of funding designated for 94 pieces and successfully reset 154 pieces for the same amount of money. Their efficiency, dedication and high-level of performance were critical to the success of the program. We wanted to recognize the excellence of this group.”
Begun in 2012, the L3 Communications project was the flagship program for Howell’s MRO Department, bid in part to source new streams of revenue in an industry quickly changing from sequestration. Originally, Howell was tasked to manage and facilitate the reset work, but after fielding repair quotes from various sources, management realized the work could be more easily facilitated in-house. While this leap may have been impossible for some companies, Howell drew upon years of aviation experience and expertise and applied it to a new venture.
Since then, Howell has continued to market MRO/GSE expertise to other companies and military branches with great success. Howell’s MRO Department was featured on the cover of Ground Support Worldwide Magazine, and they’ve successfully completed several commercial contracts. Most recently, Howell has been designated a preferred repair vendor for Lockheed Martin’s F35 Joint Strike Fighter ground support equipment.
The L3 project was finalized and signed-off in July of this year. Dr. Franks concludes, “Howell is the first in the program to have earned this honor. I wanted to express appreciation for the hard work this team put in to get this up and running for us. Every person that has worked on the program has done a professional and thorough job of taking care of L3 and the government, making sure everyone is always happy and satisfied.”
