HPG Chamber Takes over Tourist Promotion for Hopewell-Prince George Area
Hopewell, VA, USA (PRWEB) July 22, 2014 -- With a three-year grant from the City of Hopewell and Prince George County, the Hopewell-Prince George Chamber of Commerce is managing the area’s Visitor Center and tourist promotion program. Prince George County joined the City of Hopewell in funding the visitor program starting July 1.
The HPG Chamber is now staffing the Visitor Center at 4100 Oaklawn Boulevard in Hopewell, just off Interstate 295 and near the Prince George County line and is preparing to launch a new website and an aggressive social media campaign, including a video on area attractions and postings on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
“There is so much history in this area. People are not just coming to see one place or one historic attraction. They want to see other places,” said Prince George Board Chairman, William Robertson. “We think it’s important to have a central location where people are able to find information on what to see and do in our area.”
“I think that the venture between Prince George County, Hopewell and the Chamber will pay huge dividends,” said Hopewell Mayor, Michael Bujakowski. “The Chamber has the resources and the technical abilities that we don’t have. The Chamber is going to have the ability to promote Hopewell before many more people than we have been able to reach in the past.”
The HPG Chamber has contracted with Polly Elmore of PR Works to set up and launch the Hopewell-Prince George tourist promotion program. Elmore was involved in the launching of the Richmond area as a tourist destination in her position as vice president of communications & marketing with the Greater Richmond Chamber from 1977 to 1986. She recently returned to the Richmond area after working 20 years in Northern Virginia. She has been a consultant to the HPG Chamber for the past two years.
“We plan to work closely with the Virginia Tourism Corporation to take advantage of their co-op programs,” said Becky McDonough, CEO of the HPG Chamber. “We will actively participate in their ‘Virginia is for Lovers®’ campaign, recognized by Forbes as one of the top ten tourism marketing campaigns of all times. We will be inviting tourists to ‘Follow the LOVE to Hopewell-Prince George, Virginia!’”
