Humane Society of Pinellas Participates in $100K Challenge in Effort to Save Tampa Bay Animals
Tampa Bay, FL (PRWEB) July 22, 2013 -- The Humane Society of Pinellas, one of only 50 shelters nationwide competing in the 2013 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge, is looking to Tampa Bay residents for help in securing homes for animals in need. The challenge is a contest in which animal shelters compete to break their own adoption records for a grand prize of $100,000. Throughout the months of June, July and August 2013, each competing organization must save more dogs, cats, puppies and kittens than they did during the same three months in 2012.
In its quest to find happy homes for its furry friends, the Humane Society of Pinellas is offering all Special Pets in Need (SPIN) free of charge. SPIN includes animals that require ongoing medical care or special living requirements, older pets or longtime residents of the shelter. All other pets are available for a small adoption fee which covers the cost of:
•All current vaccinations;
•Exams – both behavioral and health;
•Pinellas County Licensing;
•Microchip and registration;
•30 days pet health insurance from 24 Pet Watch
“The best part of the [$100k Challenge] is that our animals are finding good homes – and the owners are gaining a new best friend,” said Executive Director, Sarah Brown. “We’re excited about the success we’ve seen so far and hope to reach even higher adoption numbers.”
The Humane Society of Pinellas recently won a $5,000 grant for adopting out 325 animals in the month of June – an increase of 153 from June 2012 – and the organization plans to surpass that number in the consecutive months.
Tiger Lilly is a sweet 11-year-old senior kitty looking to live with someone in her own age range.
