HumanWare’s Prodigi 2-in-1 Digital Magnifier Wins Prestigious Silmo d’Or Award
Drummondville, Quebec, Canada (PRWEB) October 03, 2013 -- HumanWare’s new ProdigiTM personal vision assistant was granted the prestigious Silmo d’Or Award for innovation and creativity in Low Vision technology at the 20th awarding ceremonies at the Silmo 2013 conference in Paris, France. Silmo is Europe’s leading conference for the Optical industry and the award was won with HumanWare’s marketing partner, EssilorTM, the world's leading ophthalmic optics company.
"HumanWare is proud to introduce the revolutionary Prodigi family that finally brings low vision technology into the 21st century. Prodigi will make a big difference in the lives of an even greater number of people living with vision loss," stated Gilles Pepin, CEO. "The Silmo d'Or Award that we just won has a particularly special meaning for us. More than a true innovation prize, the Silmo d'Or is a label of quality recognized by professionals in the optical industry. "
The Prodigi family of personal vision assistants was unveiled in July of 2013, and consists of 3 models being introduced in 2013: the Prodigi Duo, the Prodigi Tablet, and later this year, the Prodigi Desktop. HumanWare announced that it is now shipping the Prodigi Duo and Tablet models and accepting orders for all 3 models.
The Prodigi Duo is a 2-in-1 desktop HD digital electronic magnifier that incorporates a patented docking station and a powerful tablet magnifier to allow the low vision user to have both a big-screen desktop device, and a go-anywhere magnifier at about the same cost as a traditional desktop system. Both devices use Touch and TapTM technology, and HumanWare’s unique Diamond-Edge Text TM format, which can be magnified up to 80 times with no loss of text quality. Several different reading formats can be customized, and there is always the choice to turn on the Speech capabilities, to sit back and listen. Prodigi can also store documents and recall them for reading or listening at home or away. Start-up and training time is simplified with Prodigi’s own built-in tutorial wizard, which also sets preferences for the user’s specific reading requirements when it is first plugged-in and turned on.
The Prodigi Tablet is a handheld magnifier capable of the same functions as the Prodigi Duo, but in a portable, 5-inch touchscreen LCD package that weighs about 8 ounces, yet priced similarly to HD portable magnifiers with little built-in intelligence. The Tablet is capable of magnification, OCR, Text-to-Speech, storage, and more inside a sleek portable device.
The third model, the Prodigi Desktop, has a similar format as the Duo, but is streamlined and doesn’t offer the portable Tablet. It has a starting price 1/3 less than a traditional CCTV and will be shipping before the end of the year.
