Hundreds to Plunge in Icy Maryland Lake for Humane Society
Boonsboro, MD (PRWEB) December 31, 2013 -- Over four hundred individuals are expected to brave cold lake waters in Maryland during the 11th annual Polar Bear Plunge, all in support of the Humane Society of Washington County, Md.
The Polar Bear Plunge is the largest fundraising event hosted by the Humane Society of Washington County. Participants gather waterside, often in over-the-top attire, to plunge into icy water to show their support for the Humane Society. All proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Washington County. The proceeds allow the 501C3 nonprofit to continue to shelter animals, fund community spay and neuter programs and to provide education programs that benefit Washington County residents.
Each year, a staggering 5,700 animals rely on help from the Humane Society of Washington County. Last year the event fetched more than $11,000.
“We’ve been looking forward to it all year long. We absolutely can’t wait,” added Michael Lausen, executive director of the Humane Society of Washington County.
The event will be held on Jan. 18, 2014 at Greenbrier State Park in Boonsboro, Md. One of Maryland’s most popular parks, Greenbrier State Park sees 450,000 visitors annually who come to see the scenic lake.
“We encourage those who are concerned about the welfare of animals, enjoy supporting a worthy cause and those who like to have fun to register for this event. The Humane Society of Washington County counts on the generous support from individuals from all over the region for the success of this event each year,” said Lausen.
