Husson University’s Student Theatre Group to Perform “Mary’s Wedding”
Bangor, Maine (PRWEB) April 21, 2016 -- Husson University Theatre (HUT), a student run drama group, will be performing the award-winning play “Mary’s Wedding” on April 29, 30 and May 1 in the Gracie’s Black Box Theatre. “Mary’s Wedding” is directed by Husson senior Claire Harrison with set design by Nichole Sparlin and lighting design by Zach Madore.
Naomi Watts, a student enrolled in the New England School of Communication’s entertainment production program described the play this way: “’Mary’s Wedding’ is a boy-meets-girl story about Mary and her lover, Charlie. The story begins in 1920, the evening before Mary's marriage to another man. Mary narrates the story of her first meeting with the young soldier Charlie, their growing love for one another, and his need to leave and serve in the war.”
“Mary’s Wedding,” written by Stephen Massicotte, premiered at the Alberta Theatre Projects in 2002. It is one of the most widely performed plays in Canada. The play earned the Betty Mitchell Award for Outstanding New Play in 2002. It also received the Gwen Pharis Ringwood Award for Outstanding New Publication. The show honors Sergeant Flowerdew, a real soldier who served in World War I.
Recently, Husson University Theatre performed “Twelfth Night” by William Shakespeare. Previous productions include “The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood” by Mary Lynn Dobson, “Proof” by David Auburn, “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead” by Tom Stoppard, “The Lion in Winter” by James Goldman, “Kill Me Deadly” by Bill Roben and “Easter Parade” by Maine playwright Laura Emack.
Performances take place Friday April 29 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, April 30 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 1 at 2:00 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre on the second floor of The Gracie.
