HydroWorx Offers a Live Streaming Webcast on Return to Activity from Total Hip Arthroplasty Using Aquatics
Middletown, PA (PRWEB) May 05, 2014 -- If your hip has been damaged by arthritis, tendinitis, bursitis, injury or any other cause of soreness and pain, even getting up from the couch can be quite an uncomfortable ordeal. Many Americans—when confronted with a lifetime of chronic pain—opt for hip replacement surgery.
Since the 1960s, surgeons in the US have been performing total hip arthroplasty. According to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, over 285,000 hip replacements are performed in the US each year. New technology and research have helped to improve the surgical process, expanding opportunities for patients to heal and resume an active lifestyle. However, many patients who previously enjoyed rigorous forms of exercise have been forced to abandon their favorite pastime.
Until now.
With the use of the HydroWorx underwater treadmill, resistance jets, and water’s properties of buoyancy and hydrostatic pressure, total hip arthroplasty patients are able to regain core strength and their natural gait and return to the activities they love.
On Wednesday, May 7, 2014 from 2:00-3:00pm EDT Keith Ori, Co-Owner of Orthopedic Rehab of Kalispell, Montana, and Teresa Kropp, PT Manager of Orthopedic Rehab Aquatics and Spine Center, will present the webcast “Return to Activity from Total Hip Arthroplasty Using Aquatics—A Case Study.”
“The overall objective with the webcast,” stated Kropp, co-presenter, “is to show how the HydroWorx pool, with the use of the treadmill, can allow a very active person with a total hip replacement return to running. We helped an extremely active 54 year old woman with longstanding hip pain return to her passion. The pool and underwater treadmill were the game-changers in the process.”
This form of aquatic therapy made the difference when other, more conservative interventions, had previously failed. “There is a huge difference in using the underwater treadmill versus just walking in a pool. Gait patterns in the pool are very different from walking on land, but on the underwater treadmill, patterns very closely mimic land, plus the joints are unloaded. And that’s what made the difference for this patient,” continued Kropp.
Webcast attendees will learn:
• How aquatic therapy benefits those recovering from hip surgery
• Specific protocols for each stage of rehabilitation
• How to identify progression timing
• How exercises done in the water transfer to land progression
This 1 hour webcast will be broadcast live from the HydroWorx 750 Series pool at Orthopedic Rehab, Inc in Kalispell, Montana. Live attendees will have the opportunity to try out the HydroWorx 750 Series pool.
