Hyper-Reach To Provide Emergency Alerts During Girls on the Run 5K
Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) April 28, 2014 -- This Saturday, May 3, more than 7,000 elementary and middle school girls, their parents, friends and family will gather in Huntersville for the Girls on the Run 5K. And if they sign up by Friday, they will be able to be quickly alerted to any potentially unsafe situations.
Hyper-Reach – a national provider of emergency alert services to public safety officials – is providing emergency alert services to the Girls on the Run organization for the event at no cost to Girls on the Run. This means that the event organizers will be able to send out alerts to everyone who signs up for the service.
Telephone-based emergency alert systems are used by thousands of communities across the United States to notify citizens of danger and help them prepare for disasters. These systems alert people of weather emergencies, missing persons, criminal activity, environmental disasters, and other situations that can cause loss of life and property. The Hyper-Reach system can send thousands of phone calls, text messages and emails in just a few seconds.
Mecklenburg, Cabarrus and other counties in North Carolina already provide emergency alert services to their residents. But each county uses a different vendor, which means that a message sent on the Mecklenburg system would not be received by non-residents. So Hyper-Reach – which provides emergency alerts for Burke and Beaufort counties, among others – is providing this complimentary alert service for all attendees for the event.
“We were thrilled to hear about the Hyper-Reach Event Initiative and how it can improve the safety and security of our event,” said Jessica Otto, Council Director of Girls on the Run Charlotte. “And Hyper-Reach set up our account in a few days. The system is very easy to use, which is important if we really need to use it. We hope that everyone signs up for the alerts as soon as possible.”
Participants and others planning to attend the event can register for the alerts at http://www.usnear.org/girls-on-the--run-5K/. Registration is managed by the US National Emergency Alert Registry (http://www.usnear.org), which provides free registration for emergency alerts throughout the US. As an added service, people who register for alerts for the Girls on the Run event can also have their information automatically added to the local alert service provided by their home county. People who want to receive the alerts should register no later than Friday, May 2, to be sure that their number is in the alert database in time for the event.
