i-Sight to Offer Webinar on Mastering Challenging Investigation Interview Subjects
(PRWEB) July 23, 2014 -- i-Sight Software has announced that it will offer a free webinar entitled Mastering Challenging Investigation Interview Subjects. The webinar will be presented on July 31st at 2pm EDT by Bill Nolan, Managing Partner of Barnes & Thornburg LLP’s Ohio office and author of the blog series: The Witness Files.
Even the most experienced corporate investigators sometimes find themselves in challenging interview situations. Circumstances, personalities and motivations can affect how investigation interview subjects react under the pressure of an investigator’s questioning. And while the basics of good interviewing will always apply no matter how challenging a complainant, alleged wrongdoer or witness turns out to be, the investigator’s competence will determine the outcome.
“The central concern in most workplace investigations is the employer’s potential liability to the complaining party,” says Nolan. “Decades of verdicts and decisions have demonstrated the potential liability for employers who don’t address workplace misconduct appropriately. So it’s important to get the information you need in investigation interviews, and that requires the ability to handle challenging interview situations effectively,” he says.
“When conducting investigations, you are going to run into all sorts of difficult people,” says Joe Gerard, Vice President of Marketing and Sales at i-Sight. “Some may be afraid to lose their jobs, others may have something to hide or even have a hidden agenda. Knowing how to handle these situations is an essential skill for a good investigator. We’re really happy that Bill Nolan has agreed to come onboard to present this webinar, which will be based on his popular series on our blog.”
During the webinar, Nolan will discuss strategies for handling:
• The parting shot complainant
• The counseled complainant
• The high-risk harasser
• The squeamish supervisor
• The clueless, yet compliant, accused
• Other challenging situations investigators encounter during interviews
