IAEG to Launch Six Replacement Technologies Projects
WARRENDALE, Pa. (PRWEB) December 06, 2016 -- The International Aerospace Environmental Group (IAEG) has announced it intends to launch six projects aiming to find alternatives to technologies that use chemistry which may be hazardous to human health and the environment. These projects involve major players in the aerospace industry and will formally launch in 2017.
The following technology areas will be investigated:
• Hard chrome plating;
• Chromate conversion coatings;
• Chromic acid anodizing;
• Cadmium plating on industry standard parts;
• Bonding primers; and
• Structural primers.
The global aerospace industry currently uses these technologies to provide critical performance properties that are demanded by aerospace products. Substitution in legacy systems is a major challenge for the industry due to the complexity of the machinery, the environment in which it operates, and the importance of safety requirements.
Whilst individual aerospace companies have been working for many years to investigate alternatives for these substances, the collaboration projects demonstrate the industry’s continued commitment to find suitable alternatives to make available to the industry as a whole. Additionally, these projects may help to secure manufacturing, overhaul and repair of products in regions where regulatory requirements may restrict capability.
Since its creation in 2011, IAEG has more than doubled in size. Its members generate more than 50 per cent of the total aerospace industry sales. IAEG solutions, like the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Guidance, can reduce compliance costs within the aerospace industry’s supply chain by improving consistency.
“The replacement projects launch is another example of the aerospace and defense industry working together through IAEG” said Sally Gestautas from Raytheon Company and current IAEG Chair.
