Icing Images Supports Baja Mission for Women’s Ministry and Programs
Winchester, VA (PRWEB) January 31, 2015 -- Icing Images supports the women of the Baja Mission by providing Premium Icing Sheets™, edible ink and Sweet Accents Machines® to facilitate women in Baja who have migrated from other parts of Mexico seeking job opportunities within the produce fields and packing factories, many of whom have left their extended families behind in exchange for long work hours at the rate of $10 a day.
In 2012, Icing Images' employee Courtney Medved went on her first mission trip with Baja Missions. "To say it was life changing would be an understatement," stated Medved. Since 2012, Medved has been on 5 trips and currently has two more in the planning stages. Medved’s first goal was to build relationships between her American and Mexican brothers and sisters. As she grew closer to her family in Mexico, she realized that there was a need for women's ministry. Women make up the majority of adults in each congregation - about 70%! The goal for this program is to cultivate unity in Christ and build relationships between members in each congregation as well as empower the women with new skills. Her first trip in January 2015 was a huge success with small sewing and knitting classes and personal home visits. Plans for the future include identifying strengths individually and in communities and providing workshops in nutrition, finance, knitting, and sewing.
Founded in 1996, the Baja Mission was formed to assist new U.S. government supported church congregations throughout Baja, Mexico. The Baja Mission’s goal is to identify and train leaders within each of the communities while providing opportunities for these women to discover and develop their gifts and talents.
The supplies provided by Icing Images and other companies in the United States are vital to the classes offered to the women of the Baja Mission. Supplies such as books, yarn, fabric, and other craft materials are needed for the classes throughout the year.
The Baja Mission seeks to add a new element of church life; encourage positive self-worth; empower women to think, create, love, give, serve, encourage one another; cultivating deep meaningful relationships through studying the Word, and to make the women understand they are not alone.
Moving forward, the Baja Mission seeks to identify and train leaders within each of the communities by spending more time in conversation with each community to gain a better understanding of their vision and potential skills that currently exist among the women. This process will begin with a women’s conference by offering a key-note speaker to encourage and teach the women followed by breakout sessions on key topics such as sewing, food preservations, nutrition and finance that will allow the women to identify passions and create excitement for each of the potential programs. After this conference, regular workshops will be offered, turning into long-term programs.
To keep this mission’s work successful, donations are needed for supplies. Each woman that travels from the United States is responsible for paying for her own travel, food, and lodging.
