Ideagist Invites High School Students to Compete in Environmental Awareness Contest
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (PRWEB) January 26, 2016 -- Since the Jan. 10, 2016 launch of the Ideagist Global 100 - 100 ways to Reduce our Carbon Footprint competition, contest coordinators at Ideagist decided to invite high school students to join the competition by submitting their ideas for mitigating global warming. According to The Center of Climate and Safety, addressing the topic of climate change begins with empowering young people through education to discover ways they can make changes that benefit the environment.
Ideagist hopes to spur a collaborative alliance with teachers to promote environmental awareness in the classroom, and raise enthusiasm among students using a competitive platform that stimulates action. Through a variety of activities, high school students can gain a detailed understanding of climate-change drivers, impacts, and eco-science.
Classroom activities focused on climate change can help students comprehend complex scientific research by involving them in hands-on projects that generate new ideas. The aim is to encourage students to be creative in looking for unique ways to reduce their own carbon footprint while inspiring others to do the same.
Climate change is a controversial topic, and the result of so many conflicted opinions has had an impact on young people; many teens have distanced themselves from the issue at a time when developing awareness couldn’t be more important.
The goal of encouraging students to participate in the Global 100 competition is to enlighten, inform and empower them to embrace a sense of responsibility for the environment early on, and to learn how to speak out about situations that harm the environment.
“Sometimes young people, especially teens, feel as if they have no voice, and the only way they will find their voice is by gaining the confidence to speak up and out,” says Ideagist founder and CEO Hassan Syed. “We have to be willing to earnestly listen to their ideas and solutions for climate action, and actively engage them in the conservation.”
The Global 100 competition was initiated immediately following the U.N. Climate Change Conference that convened Dec. 12, 2015 with a history-making commitment from 200 countries to end the era of fossil fuels.
High School students can enter the Ideagist Global 100 contest by submitting their ideas for reducing personal demands on the planet’s natural ecosystem from a fresh perspective. All ideas are welcome, from simple measures anyone can easily incorporate into their daily routine, like unplugging electronic devises they are not using, to more complex solutions provided their adoption is within the financial means of an average person.
Entry rules are simple; each idea submitted should be innovative, must be something anyone can do at little to no cost, and will have an impact on reducing their carbon footprint.
Ideagist records all contest entries, and will publish those that meet contest guidelines on the Ideagist website to earn “likes” from the general public. The 100 top entries with the most “likes” will be showcased on a special website page “Wall of Ideas,” and winners will be selected by a panel of judges. Prizes and rewards will be announced before the contest ends on April 30th, 2016.
Teachers and students interested in learning more or entering the competition can visit the Ideagist Global 100 contest website, email media(at)ideagist(dot)com, or call 612-666-9247.
