Identigene Finds Nearly Half of Americans Plan to Make a Major Life Change in 2014
Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) January 30, 2014 -- While some Americans resolve to get organized or exercise more, a new survey shows that nearly half of adults (46 percent) are looking to make a “major life change” in the New Year.
The survey was commissioned by Identigene, the commercial laboratory that created the only DNA paternity test available at drugstores and supercenters, to help identify major life changes people are making this year and how they plan to accomplish these changes. The survey shows Americans take their time before deciding to make a major life change, such as addressing a paternity issue or question, buying or building a home and getting married or divorced. Forty percent of adults who are planning to make a major life change in 2014 have been thinking about making this change for more than a year. Even so, nine out of 10 say they are nervous, on some level, about making this change.
“Rightfully so,” says Dr. Janet Taylor, psychiatrist and spokesperson for Identigene. “Changing important parts of your life can definitely be a daunting task, and feeling nervous about addressing these changes is normal.” Dr. Janet asserts that “Change is vital to personal development.” She offers some steps to help ease nervousness and build confidence to help empower people to make their desired life changes. According to the survey, 59 percent of people plan to use a friend or family member as a resource for going through a major life change. “A close friend or family member can be a great resource for emotional support during this time of change,” agrees Dr. Taylor.
In the survey, one in ten adults (10 percent) plan to address a paternity question or concern in 2014. The top four reasons were the desire for peace of mind (27 percent), finances (21 percent), child custody (21 percent) and health/medical reasons (18 percent). Although specific reasoning for addressing paternity questions or concerns varies from person to person, the benefits of confirming paternity are multifaceted and far reaching.
The survey also found that more than half (54 percent) of those looking to address a paternity issue did not know there is a 100 percent accurate DNA paternity test kit available.
