Rockford, IL (PRWEB) December 08, 2015 -- The eight members of the Board voted to grant MercyRockford the necessary state approvals to 1) continue operating a vibrant hospital campus on N. Rockton Ave.; 2) to build a regional hospital campus for highly specialized and critical care services at E. Riverside Blvd. and I-90; and 3) to build a medical office building on the Riverside Blvd campus.
The Board meeting was held at the Bolingbrook Golf Club in Bolingbrook, Illinois. Thirty community members from Rockford and surrounding areas provided testimony in support of the MercyRockford plans and over 250 supporters were present for the hearing. Those speaking in favor of the MercyRockford project included elected officials from the State of Illinois, City of Rockford, Winnebago and Boone Counties, west-side community leaders, a number of area agencies and organizations.
“We are proud and grateful of the hundreds of individual and organizations who wrote letters of support, spoke in favor of our project and the 7,100 individuals who signed our petition,” said Javon R. Bea, President and CEO of MercyRockford Health System.
The MercyRockford plans approved today call for an investment of $400 million in facilities. Additionally, the MercyRockford Board of Directors recently signed a formal Board resolution committing to invest at least $50 million in the N. Rockton Ave. campus over the next ten years.
“We thank the Illinois Health Facilities and Planning Review Board and staff for their thoughtful process and consideration of our applications,” Bea continues. “We are excited to commence with site development, facilities design and anticipate groundbreaking in early 2016.”
