Portland, OR (PRWEB) April 14, 2015 -- In 2013, The International Institute for Analytics (IIA) and HIMSS Analytics developed the DELTA Powered Analytics Assessment (DPAA), a quantitative tool to measure how effectively healthcare provider organizations use analytics, business intelligence applications and data to drive decision-making.
At the HIMSS 2014 conference, IIA published benchmark results from the first cohort of healthcare provider organizations that were assessed using the DPAA. This year’s report (2015) focuses on how top performing healthcare provider organizations have met or exceeded expectations en route to achieving top performer status in the area of data and analytics. The report provides a checklist that healthcare provider organizations can follow to improve their analytics maturity.
The report found that success for the top 10% of health care provider organizations begins with effective performance on data fundamentals followed by specific analyst skillsets, with taking a consultative approach being very highly rated. Critical target and enterprise competencies, while important, tend to follow upon success among the first three categories.
These are among the key findings of “Defining Analytical Excellence in Healthcare,” a report issued this week and based on data collected from more than 3,000 respondents at 31 healthcare provider organizations. The report was written by the International Institute for Analytics (IIA), the leading independent research and advisory firm focused exclusively on guiding its clients to leverage the power of analytics, in cooperation with HIMSS Analytics, the research and analytics arm of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).
The assessment utilizes the widely published DELTA Model framework described in Analytics at Work by IIA co-founder Thomas H. Davenport and IIA faculty members Robert Morison and Jeanne Harris. The DELTA model measures maturity across five critical analytic competencies: Data, Enterprise approach, Leadership, Targets and Analysts.
As healthcare providers rapidly accumulate massive amounts of data and shift to valued-based and accountable care propositions, it has created a need to leverage data to gain valuable clinical and business insights. As a result, healthcare providers must now focus on managing and maturing their analytic capabilities.
“The DELTA Powered Analytics Assessment provides healthcare organizations with the ability to measure the strength of their analytics program and gives insight into where an organization should focus to advance analytics capabilities and maturity,” said Jack Phillips, CEO and Co-Founder of IIA.
