Tony Verga learned about helical piles when researching a construction project. He previously had installed decks and additions with dug footings and sought a new technology to eliminate digging, hauling, mixing cement and a 5-day cure time. His research led him to Techno Metal Post in Thetford Mines, Quebec, the leader in Helical Pile Technology and Custom Installation Equipment. Verga said, “not only is Techno Metal Post offering the product, but they are offering a fully engineered solution.”
The soil in the Lake Michigan region is mostly clay. Installing concrete sonotubes is costly and labor intensive for construction contractors. After meeting with the Techno Metal Post team, Tony saw the development potential in this region. Verga said, “I believe that the helical pile technology will receive an enthusiastic welcome in our region.”
In July 2016, Tony traveled to Thetford Mines to participate in certification classes on installing piles, use of the installation equipment and the structural and practical engineering of helical piles. In August 2016, additional training sessions were held in Chicago for staff from Chicago and Indiana and Techno Metal Post Southern Wisconsin.
With the quick adaptation of helical piles in the construction industry and the popularity of TV shows such as “Decked Out” (DIY Network), Techno Metal Post Illiana has great growth potential.
