Illinois District Prepares Students for College & Career with ORIGO Education
St. Charles, MO. (PRWEB) September 28, 2015 -- Developing critical thinking skills is vital to equipping students for future success. La Moille Community Unit School District (CUSD) has this goal in mind implementing its new elementary mathematics curriculum, ORIGO Stepping Stones, which deepens student learning, better preparing them for a competitive global environment.
“Stepping Stones is helping our district transform its math curriculum,” said Dr. Ricardo Espinoza, superintendent for La Moille CUSD. “Students and teachers are utilizing the engaging technology enhanced program to meet the Common Core State Standards.”
The Common Core State Standards have significantly shifted the focus from procedural learning to conceptual understanding, replacing the traditional method of memorizing formulas in favor of thinking critically through an idea.
Stepping Stones was recently implemented in grades K-5 in the 2015-16 school year. The rigorous curriculum challenges students to think independently and translate mathematical concepts into real-world scenarios. Mastery of thinking and reasoning skills strengthen the mathematical foundation and will be essential when competing for 21st-century jobs. La Moille CUSD educators strive to inspire life-long learners who are respectful and responsible citizens of a changing world.
“Schools using Stepping Stones are seeing dramatic changes in their classrooms. Students are actively engaged and excited about learning math, problem solving, and thinking comprehension is developing at a faster rate, and test scores have noticeably improved.” said Melisa Bartlett, General Manager of ORIGO Education. “Whether a district is big, small, urban or rural, students and educators are mastering math skills with this curriculum.”
ORIGO Stepping Stones is used in more than 100 districts serving half-a-million students across the United States. La Moille will be hosting members of the media on Friday, October 2nd to demonstrate the effectiveness of Stepping Stones and speak with educators about how it is used in classrooms. Media interested in attending should contact Dr. Espinoza: espinoza(at)lamoilleschools(dot)org
