Illinois Hospital Association Hospital Engagement Network (HEN) Physicians Offered Opportunity to Certify in Health Care Quality and Management
New Port Richey, FL (PRWEB) August 27, 2013 -- The American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians (ABQAURP) today announced that physicians participating in the Illinois Hospital Association (IHA) / Health Research & Educational Trust (HRET) Hospital Engagement Network will be offered the opportunity to sit for Board Certification in Health Care Quality and Management (HCQM).
HCQM-certified health care leaders effectively address accountability by demonstrating their understanding of quality techniques and tools to reduce medical errors, ensure patient safety, eliminate wasteful spending and unnecessary services, while avoiding potentially harmful delays in care.
“Certification demonstrates to internal and external entities that you, your group practice, or hospital is accountable,” said Arthur Broder, MD, CHCQM, ABQAURP Chairman of the Board. “The result is a safer, more efficient, and cost-effective system that better satisfies the needs of patients, providers, purchasers, and payers.”
Health care professionals who achieve certification in Health Care Quality and Management demonstrate a deep commitment to patient safety, health care quality, and effective care. Providers certified in HCQM demonstrate superior ability to critically evaluate the literature, identify evidence-based best practices, and make recommendations that balance appropriateness of services with cost and quality. HCQM Certification addresses effectiveness, efficiency, equity, safety, and timeliness in today's health care environment.
“One aim of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) introduced in 2010 is to reduce costs and improve health care outcomes by shifting the system towards quality over quantity,” said Renee Willoughby, Managing Director, ABQAURP. “Quality, patient safety, and improved outcomes have been the cornerstone of ABQAURP education and certification for over 35 years.”
ABQAURP has collaborated with HRET since 2012 when they were selected to serve as the continuing education provider for a contract awarded by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to support the Partnership for Patients (PFP) campaign. The project is helping hospitals adopt new practices that have the potential to reduce inpatient harm by 40 percent and readmissions by 20 percent over the contract.
IHA’s Hospital Engagement Network is public-private partnership between IHA and its Institute for Innovations in Care and Quality, the American Hospital Association’s Health Research & Educational Trust, and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Through HEN, 70 Illinois hospitals are receiving assistance in leadership, performance improvement and culture change as well as in the rapid adoption of evidence-based practices with a goal of reducing inpatient harm by 40 percent and re-admissions by 20 percent.
