ILX Comment on Survey Results on the Difficulty of Project Manager Roles
(PRWEB UK) 25 April 2014 -- Three out of four project managers believe their jobs have become more difficult, it is reported in a new survey from project management consulting firm, RefineM. Despite the core idea of what a project manager’s objectives are – to deliver project on budget and schedule – changes in the sector have reportedly brought about fresh difficulties, leading to more responsibilities and challenges for existing project managers.
NK Shrivastava, CEO of RefineM, said: “About 90% of project managers report they are asked to do more in less time. But challenges go deeper than time and budget constraints. Projects have become more global, diverse and complex. And with resources stretched thin, team members must step out of their comfort zone, heightening the sense of pressure and risk.
“Project managers struggle to find the sweet spot—too few project management processes means skipping critical steps which can lead to mistakes and project failure. Too many, and you add unnecessary complexity, waste time, annoy teammates, and lose credibility.”
ILX, a leading provider of project management training courses, have commented on these results, and the new light they shed on the project management sector. A spokesperson for the company said:
“While the essential role of the project manager will almost certainly remain the same, little changes to various industries and expectations for professionals in the sector have brought about various challenges for project managers. This has led to a wider variety of tasks and duties assigned to the average project manager, as well as a renewed chance for them to step outside of their comfort zones despite financial and time constraints put upon them.”
