ILX React to Research on Managers, Employees and Creativity
(PRWEB UK) 24 January 2014 -- New research from big data company Evolv has indicated that the commonly held opinion that creativity is a huge part of managerial ability may actually be false. A report by Quartz also calls into question the validity of promoting successful employees to project manager and manager positions regardless of individual suitability, citing the fact that desirable traits for employees are not the same as those for managers.
Previous research has indicated that effective management in business and on specific projects is the most important influence on how long companies can keep employees around and happy in their jobs, and is thus of the utmost importance to choose the best people for those roles. Evolv’s research was conducted in 13 different countries, 18 industries and across 500 million data points.
One interesting thing found in the data collected was the fact that the higher managers tested on innovation and creativity, the more likely their front line employees were to leave. This essentially means that, while these traits are very valuable in employees, they might not be as important as other skills for those in leadership positions such as project managers.
ILX, a leading provider of PRINCE2 training courses and other project management training, have commented on these findings. A spokesperson for the company said:
“These findings are in keeping with a growing realisation among professionals and organisations that those who make brilliant employees aren’t always the most suited to managerial positions. Working in a project management role requires a certain set of skills, and providing that knowledge and improving capability is at the heart of our Project Management training courses. We teach everyone from the Project Board down to individual team members providing the skills to guide a project to success.”
