New York, NY (PRWEB) July 29, 2013 -- On July 29, impact investor and entrepreneur, Philippe van den Bossche, discusses the Obama Administration’s National Impact Initiative.
According to a July 22, 2013 article published on GreenBiz.com, entitled, “Obama enters impact investing arena with new program,” the Obama Administration announced the National Impact Initiative (NII) at last month’s G8 Social Impact Investing Forum last month. NII will work to “spur economic growth and job creation through enterprises that reflect the triple bottom line of social, economic and environmental performance.”
According to the article, “impact investments” are investments made in enterprises and infrastructure that create public benefits in addition to profits, “alleviating poverty and improving the environment.”
NII offers two pillars of support for social enterprises:
1) Global Development Innovation Ventures (GDIV): This is a $25 million per year joint initiative of the United States Agency for International Development and the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development. The funding will go towards pilot tests and will scale cost-effective development solutions with the potential to reach millions of people with “innovative poverty alleviation strategies, such as solar village-scale microgrids in India.”
2) Small Business Investment Company (SBIC) Early Stage Fund: This will allocate $200 million for annual investment. This initiative provides “leverage guarantees that can triple the amount of private investor capital raised by a company.” Approximately 1,300 companies used this program in 2011.
Philippe van den Bossche, an impact investor and advocate of organic farming practices, comments on the good that will come of the government’s initiative to spur impact investing. “The NII will allow investors, philanthropists, businesspeople, and social entrepreneurs to take an integrated approach to the generation of social, environmental and financial value.”
Philippe van den Bossche is an impact entrepreneur and investor and Chairman/ Owner of Advancing Eco Agriculture (AEA), a leading organic agricultural consulting and manufacturing company located in Middlefield, Ohio. AEA provides consulting services and specialty nutritional materials to farms throughout the United States and Canada. Mr. van den Bossche is an advocate for organic farming and agriculture.
