In Celebration of Earth Day, B. F. Saul Hospitality Group Continues its Industry Leading Commitment to Environmental Sustainability with Water Conservation and Recycling
Bethesda, MD (PRWEB) April 28, 2014 -- To the B. F. Saul Company Hospitality Group, Earth Day is more than just an day of celebration. It is a day that represents the evolving landscape of corporate responsibility and environmental sustainability within the hospitality industry, and this year the Hospitality Group celebrated Earth Day by finalizing its plan to complete the last three hotels in its commercial hotel portfolio with low-flow toilets.
Due to be complete by early 2015, the Hospitality Group will replace these fixtures in its Crowne Plaza Auburn Hills (MI), Hampton Inn Dulles Airport South (VA), and Holiday Inn Dulles Airport (VA) hotels. By switching out all the guest room toilets in these hotels with low-flow, 1-gallon per flush toilets, they estimate an annual water savings of up to 3 million gallons of this important resource.
“Environmental sustainability is something that we are earnest about,” says Mark Carrier, president of B. F. Saul Company Hospitality Group. “Not only is it the right thing to do, it is something that our guests and clients value and appreciate. That’s why we launched ‘Our Big Green’ initiative over seven years ago.”
Since 2007, the Hospitality Group has had a clear focus on sustainability, and it is evident in the approach it takes to its business. The group’s ‘green’ effort is led by its Big Green Director, Will Everett, who has championed sustainability initiatives. “It started with simple ‘green’ audits to ensure that our hotels were doing the basics,” says Everett. “But over the last six or seven years it has really grown and evolved into a focus that is at the heart of our operations. With everything from robust recycling programs, to on-site lighting technologies, to low-flow toilets, ‘going green’ has really been much more than just a saying to us.”
Speaking of recycling, since July 2013 through its recycling program with Republic Waste Services, the Hospitality Group has recycled over 292,000 pounds of commingled materials in its Northern Virginia and Montgomery County, MD hotels alone.
However, the Hospitality Group’s efforts don’t stop with recycling and low-flow toilets. For example, the Holiday Inn Gaithersburg, MD hotel recently completed an efficiency tune-up of all 301 guest room PTAC units under the Pepco and Delmarva Power Energy Savers Program. Through this tune-up, all PTAC units were cleaned and given a full, multi-point inspection to ensure maximum energy efficiency and energy conservation.
