Inaugural Intern Program Vital Part of Strategic Software Upgrade
Sussex, WI (PRWEB) September 23, 2014 -- The first-ever internship program at Industrial Controls Company (ICC) has produced significant contributions to a strategic control system project, according to Don Lavrenz, President of ICC: “The internship program is off to an excellent start. We are very excited about the real value that Rachel Yehle and Matt Taylor have added to the launch of the AutoCAD® Electrical platform.”
Rachel and Matt, both electrical engineering students, began their internships in May 2014. Both students worked on a project to improve the productivity of the AutoCAD® Electrical design process. AutoCAD® Electrical is design software used to create and modify electrical control systems drawings.
An ongoing challenge faced by design teams is the mundane yet time-consuming task of creating part templates and storing the related specifications.
ICC sought a technology solution by augmenting AutoCAD® Electrical with a comprehensive parts and specifications database readily accessible to the engineering teams. With the new solution in place, ICC anticipates a dramatic reduction in drawing generation time along with improvements in quality.
Both interns played a key role in developing this database, verifying parts data from suppliers such as Rockwell Automation for completeness and accuracy.
According to Rachel Yehle, “I’ve been very pleased with my experience at ICC. I think we’ve played an essential part in making AutoCAD Electrical work in this application. And we’ve helped the company grow by helping the engineers boost their productivity; it allows them more time to expand their work.”
Matt Taylor added, “We jumped right in, head first. It shows a lot of faith in me when they give me responsibility. That’s what I would expect in a solid intern program.”
Rachel and Matt brought an exceptional understanding of how electrical concepts are applied in industry and fit right in with employees. They also enjoyed direct access to company owners and other stakeholders, which enriched the experience and will better prepare them for their future careers in business.
