Nashville, Tennessee (PRWEB) April 01, 2015 -- The best pole dancers in the nation will converge on stage at Marathon Music Works in Nashville on April 18, 2015, for the inaugural Miss Pole Dance America (MPDA) competition, an event promising to be packed with stunning visuals, great music and unforgettable performances.
MPDA is the creative vision of Alethea Austin, one of the most mesmerizing pole dance champions in the world. She is owner of Nashville’s popular, premier pole dance studio, The Chrome Bar, which opened in 2013. With the success of The Chrome Bar, Alethea also created, directed and starred in “Live Dancing Girls,” a quarterly dance revue at Nashville’s iconic Exit/In nightclub. A former U.S. pole dance champion and visual artist, Alethea is now bringing her creative expertise on and off the stage to bring MPDA to life.
“MPDA is an innovative fitness competition for modern showgirls and pole idols,” said Austin. “After years of traveling, performing and competing around the world, I wanted to create a competition unlike any other, one that combined legendary performers with a professional stage production to create a unique and unrivaled live show unlike anything else of its kind.”
Twelve of the nation’s best pole dancers and four pole troupes will compete for titles on the MPDA stage. Competitors will be judged on factors such as aerial skills, costume, creativity, grace and dance technique. The top individual winner will win a prize package worth $8,000, including $5,000 cash, a spot to perform in future national events, and the title of “Miss Pole Dance America.” More information about the competitors can be found on the MPDA website.
“Many people associate pole dancing with strip clubs, as a form of dance that’s sexy and provocative,” said Austin. “But in the pole community, there’s a movement toward pole dancing as a sport, with competitions focused on athleticism, technical merit and difficult tricks. My goal with MPDA is to bridge the divide, create a show that features both mind-blowing aerial skills with knee-weakening sex appeal, one that crosses into mainstream and showcases pole dancing for what it really is – an art.”
MPDA will feature co-hosts Steven Retchless, a finalist on America’s Got Talent, and burlesque showgirl Gigi La Femme, as well as celebrity judge Roxi D'Lite, 2014 World Champion of Exotic Dance.
Tickets are on sale on Marathon Music Works' website. Tickets are $30 for general admission standing room only, $65 for general admission seated tickets, or $500 for a VIP table for six. Marathon Music Works is located at 1402 Clinton Street, Nashville. MPDA weekend will also feature a vendor fair, workshops and a summit for pole studio owners.
