Derby Day parties take place across the United States, providing racing fans as well as the general public with an opportunity to experience the revelry and traditions associated with one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events. The first-ever Shreveport Derby Day party will make history by being the first event of its kind held on the front lawn of R.W. Norton Art Gallery.
“We’re really excited to have Shreveport Derby Day here on the grounds,” said Emily Feazel, creative and visual arts instructor for R.W. Norton Art Gallery. “An event like Shreveport Derby Day, being held on the front lawn - that’s never happened before.”
Guests at Shreveport Derby Day can take part in Kentucky Derby traditions such as drinking mint juleps and competing in “best dressed” and “best hat” contests. Winners of the fashion contests will be selected by well-known Shreveport clothiers John Pickens and Knox Goodman as well as local hat and clothing designer Jane Ryder. A live simulcast of the Kentucky Derby broadcast will be presented at 5:23 p.m.
