Inaugural Tech Table Tennis Tournament, T4Youth, Raises $50,000 for Chicago Tech Academy
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) October 08, 2014 -- T4Youth, Chicago’s only table tennis tournament for technology companies, announced today they have successfully donated $50,000 to the Chicago Tech Academy (ChiTech), including a $25,000 match from the Creating IT Futures Foundation. ChiTech is a four-year contract school dedicated to integrating technology into the high school curriculum for students in underserved neighborhoods.
Last Thursday, Killerspin House hosted 24 Chicago companies who competed in a round robin style table tennis tournament and in doing so demonstrated the Chicago technology communities’ passion for giving back. Members from ChiTech, including co-founder and director of strategic partnerships, Matt Hancock, the school director, Linnea Garrett, teachers, and students attended to accept the gift and share how CTA helps prepare its students for a future in entrepreneurship and technology.
“We are grateful we were chosen to be the recipients of the funds raised by T4Youth,” said ChiTech School Director, Linnea Garrett. “Our students’ passion for learning and technology is what our school is built on and we are thrilled they had the opportunity to network with many of Chicago’s tech professionals at the event.”
The team from DRW Trading won first place, defeating opponent, Vibes Media, in the championship match up. Trading Technologies took third place and IMC Financial Markets took home fourth.
“Team Vibes had a great experience at T4Youth. Not only did we enjoy the thrill of some serious competition, but it was a great way to connect with the greater Chicago tech community and support a great cause,” said Hisham Petry, senior DevOps engineer at Vibes Media. “We plan on coming back in full force next year and bringing home the trophy.”
“We are happy with the success of the first year for T4Youth and are already making plans for next year,” added Ryan Pollock of tech recruiting firm Objective Paradigm, the tournament’s visionary and central catalyst. “We knew Chicago had incredible tech talent, but apparently we have some outstanding table tennis players too. We are excited to see what the following years bring for T4Youth.”
