Inaugural U.S. Bananagrams® Elementary School Tournament Announced: The Bananagrams Challenge
Providence, RI (PRWEB) September 28, 2015 -- The search for America’s first-ever Top Banana is now underway as The Bananagrams® Challenge, the first official U.S. Bananagrams school tournament, is open for registration to elementary schools throughout New England. All finalists will receive a Bananagrams Goodie Bag filled with fun, and the child crowned Top Banana wins a trophy and $1,000 for his or her school!
As part of its mission to get children playing with words and to help celebrate Bananagrams 10th Bananaversary, Bananagrams, Inc. is launching the Challenge to help boost vocabulary and spelling skills in classrooms and after-school programs.
The free-to-enter Challenge, open to 500 schools, invites children in grades 4, 5 and 6 throughout Rhode Island - home to Bananagrams, Inc. -, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont to ‘Go Wild With Words’ by playing a series of Bananagrams games with classmates. Through a simple process of elimination, each school finds its champion, or ‘Best of the Bunch’, who then competes in a series of online word-based games – using grade-appropriate spelling lists – for one of 12 places at the Grand Final in Rhode Island on April 9, 2015.
Each school to register receives a free Bananagrams Challenge Welcome Pack worth more than $50 – this provides everything the teachers need to run their schools’ Challenge, including two Bananagrams games and a copy of Workman Publishing’s Bananagrams for Kids.
“The Bananagrams Challenge is the result of years of hard work and is something my father and I talked about when we first invented the game back in 2006,” comments Rena Nathanson, President, Bananagrams, Inc. “Part of the reason Bananagrams was born was out of a desire to help kids play with words, which ultimately enhances their appreciation of language and their grasp of spelling and literacy. And what better way to launch the challenge then in this, our 10th Anniversary Year!”
