Inaugural West Africa Power 2015 Summit to Be Launched in Lagos on 16-17 June
London, UK (PRWEB UK) 25 February 2015 -- The high profile Summit, a special addition to the company’s Infrastructure & Construction portfolio, will assess the current challenges in the West African energy sector to determine long-term solutions.
200 delegates, including West African Governments, Regulators, Utilities and Energy Service Companies, will gather at the 5* Eko Hotel & Suites in central Lagos, to unveil where the best opportunities lie in the West African power industry and assess new investment partnerships.
The energy sector in West Africa has improved noticeably in recent years. Power production has risen by roughly 8% per year (to 52 TWh), far above the Sub-Saharan average, and critically, it has gained a new political urgency with economic expansion in the region.
Uninterrupted power supply is a number one priority for the 15 countries in the West African Power Pool (WAPP). Some of the much needed capacity expansion is already underway and more is planned. Some of the regional expansions likely to be operational by 2020, include more than a dozen gas-fired plants in Nigeria: the Takoradi and Kpone gas-fired plants and Bui hydropower plant in Ghana; and the Ciprel, Azito and Songon gas-fired plants in Cote d’Ivoire.
The West Africa Power 2015 Summit will address legal frameworks specific for the region and latest regulatory developments. Moreover, the senior level Summit will be a platform for the industry end-users to get introduced to new technologies and solutions for their current challenges.
