Indoor Cyclists Cap-off 200,000 Mile "Ride" with Month-long Food Drive at Revolutions Cycling Studio in Jupiter
Jupiter, Florida (PRWEB) April 29, 2014 -- Since opening in December 2012, the folks at Revolutions Cycling Studio have been doing one thing: pedaling. A whole lot. As the only studio in Jupiter that exclusively offers indoor cycling (aka "spinning") classes, Revolutions' founders Michelle and John Manrique estimate that the more than 11,000 individual rides completed over the last eighteen months will reach the 200,000 mile mark in May.
"We started Revolutions based on our shared passion for spinning," said Michelle, who along with husband John, moved to Jupiter in 2001. "Since there wasn't a 'spin only' place in town, we saw an opportunity to open a studio for people like us who like to ride hard and get a great workout in a fun, family environment."
"Spin," as developed by cyclist Johnny G of Mad Dogg Athletics roughly thirty years ago, is a cardio-intense, group fitness class that uses stationary bikes. It is a workout fitness enthusiasts of all levels across northern Palm Beach County have embraced with dozens of riders a day, seven days a week, training at Revolutions' Toney Penna Drive studio. In May, the miles logged by these "Revolutionaries" (the moniker for Revolutions riders) will equal roughly eight trips around the world. This milestone is calculated using the special computer consoles installed on every Revolutions cycle to track rider speed, power output, calorie burn and mileage. The average rider typically logs 15-20 miles in a one-hour class and burns 600-800+ calories.
"The best thing about Revolutions is the community of riders who train here," said John, "and so to celebrate their 200,000 mile achievement, we felt it only appropriate to do something that supports our community."
During the month of May, Revolutions is accepting donations for The Lake Park Community Food Pantry, with a goal to collect over 2,000lbs. of non-perishable goods. As incentive, for every pound of food contributed, Revolutions is giving donors a chance to win a "200,000 Mile Prize Pack" that will be awarded at a special "Two-Hour 200,000 Mile Ride" on Memorial Day. Additionally, every donor and rider who visits the studio in May will receive a "Mile Marker 200,000" commemorative decal.
This will be the second food drive Revolutions is doing in support of The Lake Park Community Food Pantry. Revolutions rider and Food Pantry volunteer, Jana Torvi, introduced The Manriques to the Lake Park-based organization last fall. “The Lake Park Community Food Pantry is a joint partnership of Club 100 Charities and the Bethlehem Haitian Church of Lake Park,” explained Ms. Torvi who works as a marketing executive with Signature Home Management. “Every week, the program provides non-perishable food and other essentials to hundreds of needy families. Success in doing this requires help from a host of local partners, and we are grateful for support from groups like the Revolutions Cycling Studio community.”
