Industry Analyst Jeff Kagan on Apple Comcast Streaming TV Talks
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) March 24, 2014 -- Apple and Comcast are talking about working together to bring streaming television to the end user, says USA Today, Mar. 24.
Industry analyst Jeff Kagan offers comment.
“Apple TV has been on the cusp for so many years it’s beginning to get a five o’clock shadow,” says Tech analyst Jeff Kagan.
“Traditionally Apple shakes up an industry when it surprises everyone with an entry that really blows customers away. Think iPhone and iPad. However Apple TV has been discussed and kicked around for several years already. When and if it is finally introduced will it make a splash?” asks Principal analyst Kagan.
“However Apple also never enters a market until its sure it can provide a great experience for the user. That has been the missing link with streaming television. Some users have a great experience while others have a lousy experience and much of the difference is the broadband service of the end user,” says Technology analyst Kagan.
To provide a great quality video image the end user needs uninterrupted broadband or wireless broadband. Interruptions mean nothing with an email or text message, but can choke a video signal.
This is part of what Comcast and Apple are discussing. Coming up with a way to provide Apple with a more reliable signal to the customer. Every company and every competitor in this space has to deal with the same issues.
“I think if we pull the camera back this is an opportunity for every service provider, both wire line and wireless. Cable television companies like Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox, and wireless and IPTV companies like AT&T, Verizon and CenturyLink. I don’t think it’s a question of whether Apple TV will become real. I just think it’s a question of when,” says Kagan.
