Industry Analyst Jeff Kagan on Verizon Deploying Next Generation 100G Metro Network in U.S.
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) March 24, 2015 -- Verizon announced their plans to deploy a next generation 100G metro network for their wire line and wireless network, according to FierceTelecom, Mar. 24.
Industry analyst Jeff Kagan offers comment.
“It sounds like Verizon is now committing itself to compete in the new, ultra high speed gigabit Internet space today lead by AT&T and Google,” says Telecom Analyst Kagan.
“Many communications companies, large and small have thrown their hat in this ring as well in the last year or two. The two heavy hitters today are AT&T Gigapower and Google Fiber. There are plenty of smaller players as well including companies like CenturyLink and C Spire,” says Wireless Analyst Kagan.
“The real question is how intensive will this new Verizon move be? Will it be a real competitive force, or will it be more of an initial, lite version so they can get their footing? I hope Verizon is intending to shake things up. Especially since this space is rapidly growing. Now is the time to jump in,” says Tech Analyst Kagan.
Ciena and Cisco have been selected as suppliers for this advanced 100G metro network to address exponential traffic growth. Verizon says this will deliver improved scalability, functionality and efficiency. They want to deliver high-capacity video and wireless solutions, according to FierceTelecom.
“I was wondering when Verizon was going to jump into this new growth space. If this is their move, then I hope they and their competitors all do strong business going forward. Stay tuned for more,” says Kagan.
