Infocast’s First-Ever Metal Additive Tutorial to Discuss Strategies, New Opportunities, and Challenges Ahead
Woodland Hills, CA (PRWEB) June 16, 2015 -- Infocast, leading producer of emerging technology events, is pleased to announce the Metal Additive Tutorial, scheduled for June 23-24 at the Austin Crowne Plaza in Austin, TX. This event will bring together design engineers and machine operators with traditional metal fabricators, managers of OEM and sub-contractor additive programs, with the purpose of learning how to establish and optimize metal additive operations.
The tutorial features a line up of industry-expert speakers, including Rainer Hebert, Director of the Pratt & Whitney-affiliated Additive Manufacturing Innovation Center at UCONN.
Pratt & Whitney recently announced that this year’s first production of PurePower® PW1500G engines for Bombardier will include Metal Injection Molded components. These engines will be the first featuring entry-into-service jet engine parts produced with additive manufacturing technology. The PurePower® engine parts will be the first produced using 3D printing powder bed Additive Manufacturing.
Although Pratt & Whitney has used Additive Manufacturing for over 25 years in the production of prototype parts, the company has stated they will be the first to use AM technology for parts to be used in production engines.
“Pratt & Whitney has been working with Additive Manufacturing since the 1980s and we are looking forward to our upcoming milestone when the first production PurePower PW1500G engines with parts produced through Additive Manufacturing will be delivered,” stated Tom Prete, Pratt & Whitney’s Engineering Vice President.
Based on production tests, Pratt & Whitney states that it expects to save up to 15 months on manufacturing lead times, as well as cut weight by 50% on each individual part, as a result of using AM technology.
Infocast’s Metal Additive Tutorial will address new opportunities for skilled managers and design engineers within the industry, as well as feature case studies from key machine, software and material vendors, and the correlation of design files to final built parts. Freeform interactive Q&A will take place throughout the tutorial, providing a unique opportunity for attendees to network and gain insight into this new, game-changing technology.
