InfoDesk Introduces New Federated Search Solution

The survey, conducted by InfoDesk, asked members of the Special Libraries Association (“SLA”) about the value of a “federated search” function that that would allow users to search all of their organization’s online content with a single query. The responses highlight ongoing search challenges members are facing and suggest what an optimal solution might look like. Additionally, InfoDesk reached out to several thought leaders to help interpret the findings in their own words.
Eighty-one percent of the respondents to the survey said their information centers do not provide a federated search function that allows users to search all of their organization's online content resources with a single query. Content resources included all subscription, licensed and free sources, plus eBooks and other content made available through their online information center.
Additionally the survey examined what’s not working, what it’s costing and envisions what a federated search solution would look like.
