CAP is an international technical data specification for simultaneous dissemination of emergency messages over a wide variety of existing and emerging public alert systems, including the Emergency Alert System (EAS) for radio, television and wireline providers, and the Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEAs) for cellular companies. With the addition of CAP support, operators of InfoValue IPTV systems can disseminate their deployment specific emergency messages as well as all international emergency messages to all IPTV endpoints, including set-top boxes, smart TVs, mobile devices and PCs.
Global agencies support CAP as the effective worldwide standard for communication to the general public. The benefits of CAP include the uses of rich content, such as photographs, maps, streaming videos, geo-targeting, multiple languages, and text with equivalent audio combinations for hearing or visually impaired persons. Emergency alerts and public warning hazards are communicated for weather events, public health hazards, power outages, and many other emergencies.
