Inground Pool Liner Company, LOOP-LOC, Discusses the History of Safety Pool Covers
HAUPAUGGE, N.Y., May 18, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- LOOP-LOC, manufacturer of inground pool liner s that services New Jersey, discusses the history of safety pool covers.
Covering pools came into prominence in the Roman Empire—as pool maintenance and care came into the forefront to protect the water from heat, cold, and harmful debris. Pool covers come in a variety of models. Solar pool covers conserve heat and can extend the swimming pool season. Debris covers are typically used in the winter to stop leaves and other debris from entering the pool. They provide a measure of safety from people and animals but should not be relied on. Fortunately, safety pool covers were invented to safeguard family, friends, pets, and other animals when the pool is not in use.
It was LOOP-LOC founder Bill Donaton who co-invented safety swimming pool covers in 1957, after a business associate complained about finding small animals drowned in the waterlogged solid vinyl cover on his pool. He imagined a completely different type of pool cover that would allow the water to drain through—rather than collect—on the cover. The first mesh safety swimming pool cover was marketed that fall in Connecticut, and a new industry was created.
Then, Donaton founded LOOP-LOC in 1978 with five employees. He and his employees continued to make safety improvements and enhancements to the covers. Significant advances included the company's GAPGUARD® and SAFEDGE®--now known as CABLE-LOC™ Child Safety Intrusion Barriers—a plastic extrusion designed to close the gaps created where the edge of the cover meets a raised obstruction.
During the years that followed, LOOP-LOC employees worked diligently to make its covers the best in the industry. Today, these safety pool covers are known as "The ELEPHANT™ Cover" because they are strong enough to support the weight of an elephant. The company takes many steps to ensure these covers meet and exceed ASTM safety standards that mandate a cover must be able to support a certain amount of weight, not permit gaps that a child or pet could squeeze through, and remove standing water. These covers have also undergone extensive outside testing through Underwriters Laboratories (U.L.) and have earned the U.L. seal of approval for safety swimming pool covers.
About LOOP-LOC: There's only one company known for manufacturing safety pool covers strong and tough enough to support an elephant: the legendary LOOP-LOC.
