Inmar’s Girls on Fire Robotics Team Goes to Semi-finals, Wins Judges Award
Winston-Salem, NC (PRWEB) March 10, 2016 -- After spending six weeks building, testing and refining their robot, the Girls on Fire robotics team received the prestigious Judges’ Award and went all the way to the semi-final round in last weekend’s FIRST North Carolina competition - losing only to the team that ultimately won the overall District Event Championship. Girls on Fire is sponsored by Inmar, Inc., Girl Scouts - Carolina Peaks to Piedmont, Ecolab, NASA, United Therapeutics Corporation, Volvo, Reynolds Foundation, Kiwidyne Labs, ABCO, Symphony-Teleca and TEK Systems.
Thirty teams competed at the first NC District event in 2016. Girls on Fire was the only all-girls team to compete at the event. Additional District events will be held throughout March. Girls on Fire will compete again in the District event that will be held in Asheville, NC on March 19 and 20. NC State competition will be held April 9 and 10 in Charlotte.
FIRST North Carolina is a nonprofit organization created to inspire youth in North Carolina to pursue further studies and careers in science and technology and to help students acquire the knowledge and skills needed to compete in the technology-driven global economy. FIRST North Carolina is the state-level support organization for FIRST - For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, a national nonprofit dedicated to inspiring the next generation of engineers, innovators and entrepreneurs.
This is the second year that the Girls on Fire team is competing – having made an impressive showing during its rookie year. The team meets at the Inmar headquarters in the Wake Forest Innovation Quarter where mentors are available to provide encouragement and guidance.

She adds that, “They are smart, know how to work as a team and are determined to compete. All of us at Inmar look forward to cheering them all the way to the NC State Championship!”
