Innovative Indigo-Clean™ Wins Specialty SSL Design Category at Sapphire Awards Gala
Kenosha, WI (PRWEB) March 08, 2016 -- Indigo-Clean, a Continuous Environmental Disinfection technology, was selected as the Specialty SSL Design winner the second annual LEDs Magazine Sapphire Awards. The gala awards were held March 2, 2016 at the co-located trade shows Strategies in Light and The LED Show in Santa Clara, California.
Indigo-Clean, an affiliate of Kenall in Kenosha, Wisconsin, is the first LED luminaire to use visible light (405nm) to safely, automatically and continuously kill harmful bacteria, 24/7, in the air and on hard and soft surfaces. The technology was invented by the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland, has been in development since 2002, with over 30 refereed papers and conference proceedings since that time. It has been deployed at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary since 2008. The University has been awarded two patents for this technology and in 2015 Kenall was selected as the sole commercialization partner.
Dr. Cliff Yahnke, Director of Clinical Affairs for Indigo-Clean, said “As an innovator in healthcare lighting and a leader in LED lighting, we are excited to bring healthcare providers this effective, revolutionary environmental disinfection tool to bolster current cleaning methods, providing a safer environment for their patients. Winning the Sapphire Award celebrates the hard work of many people at Kenall and the University of Strathclyde. We look forward to seeing Indigo-Clean in hospitals as it continues to prove to reduce harmful bacteria linked to hospital acquired infections.”
Studies1 have shown that up to 86 percent disinfection beyond current cleaning protocols can be achieved when used in a clinical setting. Indigo-Clean is available in three configurations, including a Mixed mode (white and 405nm LEDs), Indigo-Only and a Switchable White and Indigo LED, which allows users to conveniently optimize the level of disinfection based upon room occupancy.
