Innovative Leadership & Photography Course Offered by Renowned Santa Fe Photographic Workshops
Santa Fe, New Mexico (PRWEB) July 24, 2014 -- Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, based in Santa Fe, New Mexico and celebrating 25 years of successful and creative photographic workshops this year, is offering a first-of-its-kind workshop that aims to inspire and ignite enthusiasm and innovation in leaders. The three-day workshop, Innovative Leadership & Photography, taking place September 24–27, 2014, is geared toward individuals with senior-level executive experience and moderate to advanced photography skills.
Reid Callanan, founder and director of Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, was inspired to create this course based on the common innovation challenges that executives face. Studies show that senior executives often live in insulated worlds, focusing on productivity and overlooking areas of inspiration. A long list of factors hinder creative growth, including short-term pressures from investors, talent deficiencies, the challenge of implementing innovation-friendly rewards structures, the fuzzy nature of innovation, and executives’ own discomfort with the different mental frames required to lead innovation.
In the workshop, instructors Hal Gregersen, executive director of the MIT Leadership Center and the leading authority on questioning’s impact on innovation, and Sam Abell, world-renowned National Geographic photographer, guide leaders in asking disruptive questions through the exercise of photography. Great photography expands observations skills, incites experimentation with new ways of doing things, and increases interaction with people unlike ourselves, all of which can jumpstart creativity.
“Photography forces us to ask questions about the things we don't know, providing new insights and ways of viewing the world,“ Callanan said. “Becoming a better photographer can unlock our capacity to ask disruptive questions, the kind that can lead to innovation and transformative change.”
The two workshop instructors each bring a wealth of knowledge to their respective fields. Hal
Gregersen, executive director of the MIT Leadership Center, co-author of the “Innovator’s DNA” (with Professor Clayton Christensen and Jeff Dyer), motivational speaker and founder of The 4-24 Project, is committed to creating insight with impact. In collaboration with Professor Christensen, Gregersen is currently focused on determining what causes the best leaders in the world to ask uncommon questions. Prior to joining MIT, Gregersen taught at INSEAD, London Business School, Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, Brigham Young University and in Finland as a Fulbright Fellow.
Sam Abell’s 40-year career has been dedicated to achieving artistic expression through documentary photography. He has pursued his goals primarily through lengthy, in-depth coverage for National Geographic. For National Geographic, Abell produced more than 20 articles, books and book chapters including major coverage on contemporary cultural, historical and natural history subjects. At the same time, he has maintained a career as an artist, teacher and author. Abell was a founder of the Santa Fe Center of Photography and has been a member of the boards of the George Eastman House, Rochester, NY and the University of Virginia Museum of Art.
