Institute for Population Health Improvement Recruits California-based Labs for No-cost Mapping Services
Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) January 21, 2015 -- The Institute for Population Health Improvement (IPHI) at the University of California, Davis Health System is recruiting California-based labs to participate in the Laboratory Mapping Assistance Project (Lab MAP). Participating labs will receive free code mapping to convert proprietary order, result, and observation codes to standard codes, namely the Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes (LOINC) and Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine—Clinical Terms (SNOMED CT®) terminologies.
The objective of the IPHI Lab MAP is to accelerate California’s clinical laboratories conversion to standards that are easily shared with healthcare providers’ electronic health records, improving the efficiency and the quality of health care delivery.
The IPHI has partnered with Mapping Services Provider, Lantana Consulting Group, to provide the mapping expertise. Lantana Consulting Group has streamlined the process to minimize the burden on labs converting their local codes to LOINC or SNOMED CT®. The first cohort is underway and the project is recruiting more labs who want to complete code mapping by mid-2015.
Potential participants must meet the following requirements:
- Independent or hospital-based California lab
- Able to send or planning to send orders or results electronically within 6 months
- Not using BOTH LOINC and SNOMED CT®
- Performs 100,000 or more lab tests annually (with some exceptions)
