InsulationRemoval.ca, the GTA’s Leading Provider of Insulation Services, Releases Expert Opinion on Ontario’s Recently Announced 33% Energy Rate Hike
Toronto, Canada (PRWEB) December 20, 2013 -- Insulation Removal.ca (http://www.InsulationRemoval.ca), the GTA’s premier provider of insulation services, including removal and installation, is releasing an expert opinion on the provincial government's recently announced plans to hike energy rates by 33% over the next few years. The company also announces its top cost-effective and energy-efficient tips.
The provincial government recently announced that Ontarians can expect their energy bills to jump by 33% over the next three years under the province’s new long-term energy plan. Shorter term, however, Ontarians began to pay more for energy on November 1, when rates went up three percent. At a time when the national inflation rate is nearly non-existent, Ontario families and businesses are witnesses the largest increase and have been saddled with paying the highest electricity rates in Canada. “Ontario families and businesses pay the highest electricity rates in Canada. In fact, over the last decade, Ontarians have seen their energy costs soar almost 50%, the equivalent of a four percent annual growth rate,” says Trevor Sean, founder of InsulationRemoval.ca. “By comparison, Quebec has experienced a 16% increase over the last decade. The average increase across the country is about 35%.”
Over the next 20 years, the provincial government maintains that Ontarians will increase energy conservation by more than 10% by making a number of personal lifestyle changes. A key part of the provincial government’s long-term energy plan includes "on-bill financing for energy efficiency retrofits." Starting in 2015, the plan allows upfront loans for home renovations that enhance energy efficiencies that will be paid back through electricity bills. (Source: Ibid.)
“Even with the onset of an early winter in the Greater Toronto Area, it’s never too late to think about adding insulation to cut down on exorbitant energy costs,” Sean adds. “This is especially true when you consider heating and cooling account for 64% of energy used in the average Canadian home. Unfortunately, because of poor insulation, a lot of that energy goes out the window.” (Source: “Energy Efficiency Trends in Canada, 1990 to 2009,” National Resources Canada web site; http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/publications/statistics/trends11/pdf/trends.pdf, last accessed December 17, 2013.)
According to Sean, the best way to determine whether a home is as energy efficient as it could be is to have a home energy expert conduct an energy audit to determine whether or not the home has enough insulation. Adding insulation to an attic can also help eliminate lost heat and dangerous icicles. At the same time, just because a property owner can see insulation in the attic doesn’t mean there’s an adequate amount. Attics need to have at least 16 inches of insulation; anything less leads to wasted heat and money.
