Known as a North American leader in the patenting of computer-implemented inventions, Mr. Marquardt focuses on the representation of innovative companies in the financial, telecommunications, data processing, and transportation industries. Active in all aspects of intellectual property law, Mr. Marquardt has assisted clients with patent and trademark litigation and prosecution in Canada and the United States, and with transactions in patent and other intellectual property matters ranging from multi-million-dollar joint ventures and license agreements to the purchase of patents from small bankruptcy estates. He frequently helps clients on both sides of the border to understand interactions and relationships between Canadian and American legislation, jurisprudence, and practice and to navigate patent landscapes across North America and throughout the world.
Having practiced for nearly twenty years in the United States, including time on both coasts, and for nearly ten years in the heart of Canada, Mr. Marquardt is uniquely positioned to assist innovators with cross-border issues. Mr. Marquardt received his B.A. and his B.S. from the University of Texas-Austin and his J.D. from the University of Washington.
