(PRWEB UK) 19 December 2013 -- The Telegraph has reported in the article titled ‘Thriving where the Cost of Living is Low and Life is Easy’ that new research has revealed that close to three-quarters of British expats believe that they have a higher quality of life since moving overseas from the UK due to a lower cost of living and higher wages. According to the survey, 46% of expats experience lower living costs abroad, while 58% earn more than they did when living in the UK, with this figure having increased by 13% from similar research conducted in 2011.
The research discovered the average weekly wage in the UK in August this year was £447, with pay rising by only 0.8% from June to August. With prices rising at a rate of 3.3% according to the Retail Prices Index, many Britons were reportedly struggling to cope with the high cost of living. With this in mind, the research explored the cost of 200 items across 214 cities, finding significant cost variations across the continents. One example was the discovery that a cinema ticket in London costs $20.10 compared to $5.91 in Johannesburg. While cost variations were apparent throughout the five continents studied, British expats cited a lower cost of living as a contributing factor to a high quality of life abroad.
As international removals specialists, the team at Interdean take a keen interest in research which looks at the quality of life for those moving overseas. A spokesperson for the company explored the results of this research:
“With the rising cost of living in the UK along with insignificant rises in wages, it is no surprise that many are making the decision to move overseas in search for a higher quality of life. Many factors can contribute to a higher quality of life abroad, from better weather to improved employment prospects, but higher wages and a lower cost of living are significant factors in an improved quality of life. For those considering their move abroad, whether you are moving to France or further afield to Australia, research such as this can provide the information needed to help make a final decision on your destination.”
