Interdean Respond to New Zealand’s Initiatives for International Students
(PRWEB UK) 1 November 2013 -- The government in New Zealand has announced a package of new initiatives to encourage more international students to live and study in the country, reports Expat Forum. Changes will be made to streamline visa processing and make it easier for international students to work while they study. This is in partnership with selected high quality education establishments.
Steven Joyce, Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment Minister, said: “Competition for international students is intensifying around the world, and it’s important we stay competitive. The amendments to rules around international students working while they are studying will bring New Zealand in line with policies of similar countries, especially Australia, and make it easier for students to choose to study here.”
Under new rules, students who are studying full time will be able to work during scheduled course breaks as well as over summer and doctoral and research masters students will be allowed to work full time if they choose. Immigration New Zealand will also trial an industry partnership initiative with universities, polytechnics and private training providers to offer streamlined and prioritised visa processing.
Michael Woodhouse, Immigration Minister, said: “While we want more students to come to our shores to study, our focus has to be on providing them with the highest quality education New Zealand has to offer. This should be a win-win partnership that incentivises education providers to strive for high standards, select their students carefully and take more responsibility for good study outcomes.”
Immigration experts, Interdean, who specialise in assisting families, expats and students moving overseas, have responded to the news of New Zealand’s new drive to attract international students. A spokesperson for the company said: “Making life easier for international students studying in New Zealand can only be a positive thing, and if these streamlined services and focus on quality education attracts more students to the country, then that’s even better. We help students when moving overseas, and an easier relocation service will be extremely welcome for them.”
