Interdean Welcome Rise in Number of Applications for Erasmus Scheme
(PRWEB UK) 24 December 2013 -- It has been reported by Expat Forum that the EU’s Erasmus scheme, which allows students to study or work abroad as part of their degree, has seen an increase in applications of up to 7%. With 14,607 students taking advantage of the scheme, this is the highest number of students enrolling in the initiative since the inception of the programme in 1987. Further statistics reveal that the number of British students taking part in the scheme has more than doubled since 2006 and 2007, while Scottish students outperform their UK counterparts with 13% of Erasmus students hailing from Scottish higher education establishments.
With the Erasmus scheme offering students the opportunity to spend up to a year working or studying abroad, with many of the costs covered, the scheme is recognised as one of the best methods for young people to gain experience abroad. The programme is one aspect of the UK government’s Outward Student Mobility Strategy which was launched this year with the aim of encouraging students to study overseas.
Renowned for their comprehensive range of services catered for the needs of students moving to Europe, the overseas removals experts at Interdean were interested in the recent release of these statistics. A representative for the company shared their thoughts:
“It is welcome news that such a high number of students are taking the opportunity to study abroad. Studying abroad can be an enriching and exciting experience for young people, with their work experience and studies not only helping to improve employment prospects in the UK and further afield, but helping students experience spending time abroad. Employers recognise the benefits of students taking part in initiatives such as the Erasmus scheme, and it is welcome news that more and more students are taking advantage of this excellent opportunity to work and study abroad.”
Understanding the needs of students moving abroad, Interdean offer an extensive range of services to assist with the process, from secure storage facilities to efficient student shipping services.
