International Education Society and University Co-Sponsor Global Citizenship Conference
Indianapolis (PRWEB) May 12, 2014 -- Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education, and Mount Royal University are co-sponsoring Learning, Leadership, and Practice: Educating Global Citizens. This international research conference will take place October 2-4, 2014, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and will highlight innovative research and best practices for educating socially responsible global citizens. The conference will bring together education researchers, teachers, administrators, and undergraduate and graduate students to network and experience research-based presentations from the world’s most respected global scholars.
Among those scholars are keynote speakers: Dr. Ann Lieberman, Emeritus Professor from Teachers College, Columbia University, Senior Scholar at Stanford University, and Kappa Delta Pi Laureate; Dr. Jodi Nickel, Chairman of the Department of Education and Schooling at Mount Royal University; Aleem Dhanani, Managing Director for Bri-Mor Developments; and Dr. Ken Zeichner, Boeing Professor of Teacher Education, University of Washington, and Kappa Delta Pi Laureate.
“This conference will profile the groundbreaking efforts of international scholars and education professionals to enhance the social and human capacity needed to sustain a civil society,” said Dr. Charles Webber, Dean of Continuing Education and Extension at Mount Royal University. “It also will be a unique opportunity for participants to plan ongoing collaboration with peers from around the globe.”
Conference sponsors have issued a call for proposals with a June 30 deadline. Accepted papers, presentations, and poster displays will be included in an online publication of the conference proceedings. Additionally, paper presenters are invited to submit their work for consideration in a special issue of the International Journal for Leadership in Learning.
“The concept of global citizenship is about finding solutions to the world’s challenges. It’s about empowering students to think and act in ways that support shared values in caring for their peers, not only within their communities, but across the globe,” said Kappa Delta Pi Executive Director Faye Snodgress. “Facilitating a dialogue on global citizenship will give educators an opportunity to share innovative practices and strategies and to explore ways that education can truly result in equitable and sustainable development.”
