International RFID Institute to Offer Its First RFID Certification Exam
Reston, VA (PRWEB) April 02, 2014 -- The International RFID Institute, a nonprofit organization founded to promote professionalism in the RFID industry through standardized certification exams, has announced that it will offer its first RFID certification exam, at RFID Journal LIVE! 2014, to be held in Orlando, Fla., April 8-10, 2014.
Those who pass the exam will be RFID Institute Certified Associates (RICA). As the first of four levels of certification planned, RICA is designed to enable companies hiring someone with that credential to know the candidate has a fundamental knowledge of the different types of RFID systems and how they are used in business and consumer applications. The exam aims to fill the void left when CompTIA withdrew its RFID+ certification two years ago.
The first exam is based on two years of work by a dedicated group of RFID professionals who came together in April 2012 to address the need for professional certification in the radio frequency identification industry. The institute was incorporated in July 2012, in Virginia, as an autonomous, non-profit, tax-exempt, charitable, scientific and educational organization, with the goal of creating a series of technology-neutral, vendor-neutral and independent RFID certifications.
The institute developed a roadmap for four levels of RFID certification and a blueprint for the first exam, including the topics to be covered. It solicited feedback from end users, systems integrators, academics and RFID manufacturers on both the roadmap and the blueprint, and made revisions accordingly, before the institute’s board approved each.
“This is another milestone for the RFID industry,” said Mike Liard, president of the RFID Institute, and noted industry analyst and consultant. “It shows the industry is maturing and putting into place all the pieces that will be needed for the mass adoption of RFID technology.”
Those attending RFID Journal LIVE! can sign up for the certification exam on-site or through the RFID Journal LIVE! website: http://www.rfidjournalevents.com/live/agenda/training/exam. Seats are limited, and candidates will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. There are no prerequisites for sitting the examination, but a good grounding in the general subject of RFID will be required to pass the examination.
