International Screening Solutions Secures EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Certification
Kennesaw, GA (PRWEB) November 14, 2016 -- International Screening Solutions, the trusted leader in global sanctions software and screening, today announced that it has been certified for the transfer of personally identifiable information (PII) from the European Union (EU) to the United States (U.S.) under the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield.
The firm also established an EU-based instance of its industry-leading global sanctions, PEP and adverse media product, WorldWatch Plus®, so that EU clients can conduct individual and entity screening and due diligence without data transfer outside the EU.
The EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework was designed by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the European Commission to ensure companies comply with EU data protection requirements. Privacy Shield replaced a previous program called Safe Harbor, under which ISS also held certification.

To join the Privacy Shield Framework, ISS was required to self-certify to the Department of Commerce and publicly commit to comply with the Framework’s requirements. Joining the Privacy Shield Framework was voluntary, but ISS’s commitment to comply with its requirements is now enforceable under U.S. law. The ISS Privacy Shield certification was led by Compliance Director Chris Campbell.
Privacy Shield replaces the EU-U.S. Safe Harbor Program, which the European Commission ruled did not sufficiently safeguard PII and had little oversight for companies who failed to adhere to Safe Harbor principles. Privacy Shield sets more stringent standards and provides stronger enforcement.
‘The approval of the Privacy Shield is a milestone for privacy at a time when the sharing of data is driving growth in every sector, from advanced manufacturing to advertising,” said U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker. “This Agreement includes new privacy protections for companies to implement, new commitments from my Department to oversee compliance, new collaboration with European institutions to ensure the Framework functions as intended, and new redress options for people across the EU.”
